Salsa with Candela

Featuring Edgardo Cambón

What's engaging about this artist:

  • Candela is led by Uruguayan singer and conga drummer, Edgardo Cambón, who has performed and recorded with “Chucho” Valdés, Eddie Palmieri, Carlos Santana, Omar Sosa, Bobby McFerrin, and countless Salsa Romántica stars.

  • The band, based in San Francisco, was formed over 30 years ago and is one of the most established Salsa Orchestras in California.

  • Candela features performers from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the United States, on piano, bass, trombone, sax, flute, guitar, conga drums, timbales, with vocalists and dancers.

  • Performances include Edgardo’s original compositions mixed with Latin standards by Oscar De León, Marc Anthony, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, and Celia Cruz, all arranged to include full string orchestra.

  • The name Candela is taken from drummers in the old days who would light a small fire by the street curb to heat up and tune their congas….”Darle CANDELA al tambor” (set the drums on fire).

“…moving flawlessly from a Guaracha, to a Cha-Cha-Chá, slowing down with a Bolero, spicing things up a bit with a Cumbia or the current Bachata, and bringing the audience to a frenzy with a faster Mambo, or a Merengue."
